Finicum: BLM Meeting in Mesquite Gets Ugly on Both Sides

Bureau of Land Management, LaVoy Finicum

Redoubt News.com

February 10, 2017

by Shari Dovale

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) hosted a meeting in Mesquite, Nevada last night that drew hundreds of people with varying opinions.

The meeting was designed to discuss Gold Butte, which became a national monument by an Obama executive order last last year.

It was disheartening to hear that they could not have a civil discussion without outbursts and insults from people on both sides of the issue. At one point Jeanette Finicum, widow of rancher LaVoy Finicum, took to the microphone to chastise the people in the room.

“ I didn’t like when the side I was sitting over there was talking out of turn. I thought it was disrespectful. I thought it was disrespectful when I saw people doing it from this side. And then walking over and getting in the faces of the people over there.  I think both sides have behaved badly, to some degree.” she told the crowd.

Jeanette had attempted to walk out of the room when she got too discouraged at both groups. However, before she could leave, someone apparently could not hold back their ugliness and referred to this lady as “Trash”.

“But how dare you call me a name as I’m walking out? How dare you insult me?  And I must come back and say that.  Calling somebody ‘trash’?  And then,  telling me that I’m trash…’You too, sister’?   Because I have the politeness to walk out when my side was being rude? This is not OK!”

The Federal government has spent the past 8 years dividing this country. It has permeated every aspect of our lives. It does not matter if you are a Socialist or a Constitutionalist, or somewhere in between, you will hear people spouting hate towards you. There seems to be little chance of a civil discussion on any topic anymore.

This attitude cannot stand. We must respect everyone’s views, else we throw our own credibility out the window. The Federal government wants this division because they know that is the way they will win the battle. Don’t fall for it. Don’t get pulled into the division. It is not always easy to do the right thing, but it is essential.

We are fortunate there are a few accounts of the meeting, with video.

Ron Glynn takes on Daily Kos

PNP comment: I looked up Daily Kos on Wikipedia, cuz I had never heard of it. These are the first few paragraphs describing the blog:

Daily Kos /ˈkoʊs/ is an outlet for American political blogging.[2][3][4][5] It functions as a discussion forum and group blog for a variety of netroots activists whose efforts are primarily directed toward influencing and strengthening socially progressive policies and candidates. Additionally, the site features a participatory political encyclopedia (“DKosopedia”), glossaries, and other content.

Daily Kos was founded by Markos Moulitsas (Kos from the last syllable of his first name, his nickname while in the military) in 2002. In 2007, its parent company, Kos Media, LLC, began a fellowship program to help fund a new generation of progressive activists. About a dozen contributing editors provide content for the site, with three to four new editors being chosen from the Daily Kos community every year.

As of September 2014, Daily Kos had an average weekday traffic of hundreds of thousands of visits.[6]

So that is the basics for Ron Glenn’s sarcastic response, which is below. This is one of the many groups actively working against the new U.S. administration. — Editor Liz Bowen

Dear Friends:

Daily Kos just sent the attached out (see below). Through sources of mine, I was able to get an outline of the tips they will give activists so they can be prepared when they storm Elected Officials’ district offices and Town Halls.

DO List:

  1. The night before an event, stay up all night smoking hash and crack so you can have the best haggard look so you can tell the Republican Official that it to due to all their suffering from a prolonged period of anxiety due to all the Republican Hate.

  2. Spend hours standing before a mirror practicing facial expressions which show how upset you are.

  3. Get with a friend and practice your complaints using a whiny voice while shrieking at a high volume.

  4. Make sure the Black Lives Matter, Red Hammer and Sickle, or SEIU t-shirt you will be wearing has recently washed along with you. BO among your fellow protesters is not cool!

  5. When encountering Republican counter protesters, use fascist bully tactics against them while shouting that they are fascists.

  6. Show up early for Town Halls and stand with other associates at the door to block others from entering who do not positively answer the question: “Do you like Michael Moore?”

  7. During a Town Hall, ask the Republican Official a question and then join with others in shouting him or her down before they have chance to answer the question.

  8. If a Town Hall participant asks a question of Republican Official that may result in an answer which would make the Republican Party look good, join others in chorus of loud boos and shouts of ridicule at the person asking the question.

  9. If you are doing a sit in at Republican Congressman’s office, keep asking the receptionist what time it is. Each time they respond, answer with “Oh”.

!0. If you see a reporter with a TV crew, run to it and start complaining about President Trump!

DO NOT List:

  1. Do not admit publically to the Republican Official during a Town Hall that you have been attending the same Public University for 7 years without obtaining that Bachelors degree in Economics.

  2. Do not admit in a Town Hall that you are unemployed and living in your mother’s basement at age 35.

  3. Refrain from addressing the Republican Official as being nothing but a Dirty ******* Nazi!

  4. If a Democrat Official starts sounding like a reasonable person, refrain from calling your Democrat Official as being nothing but a Spineless Jelly Fish Coward or being a closet Trump Supporter.

  5. During a Town Hall, ask the Republican Official a question and then join in with others to shout him or her down before he has a chance to answer the question.

  6. If it looks like you are in too small group of protestors to control a Town Hall, start action to shut down the meeting. If the Republican Official is on a stage, throw yourself onto the stage into a fetal position on the floor, sucking your thumb, and crying like a baby.

  7. Keep sending the largest possible donations to Daily Kos. We understand that many Progressive Online Groups are begging for money daily, but we deserve your money more.

Remember, the crazier they act, the worse they look to the General Public.

Ron Glynn, Oregon

PNP Comment:  This (below) is from  Daily Kos whatever that is! — Editor Liz Bowen

Subject: #ResistTrump Volunteer Opportunity in Oregon (please read)

Ronald B, senators and representatives are headed to their home districts this weekend for the first Congressional recess of this term. This recess is the perfect time for us, as constituents, to demand a plan of action for holding the toxic Trump White House accountable.

February 18 – 26, we need to mobilize a critical mass of people to storm elected officials’ district offices, local events and town halls to show Congress in no uncertain terms that we will not sit idly by and let fascists take over our nation. We can’t do it alone.

Sign up here to host a Resistance Recess event in your town. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Create a New Event.” We will give you support, tips, and help recruit people to join you.

If you can’t host an event, please chip in $5 to help Daily Kos build a strong movement to resist Trump.

We’re barely a month into this presidency and every day brings a new scandal, a new broken law, and even more resolve from passionate constituents who won’t back down.

Congressional Democrats will hear our demand for them to block every awful thing from this White House. We will not stop pressuring Republicans until they break ranks with this regime.

Resistance is crucial. On Wednesday Andy Puzder, Trump’s anti-worker wage thieving pick for Labor Secretary, withdrew his nomination under pressure from constituents and the media. After mass protests, the xenophobic Muslim travel ban is on hold. It is our duty to raise our voices in opposition to this madness.

It’s imperative that more of us step into leadership.

Sign up here to host a Resistance Recess event in your town. We will absolutely help you make it a success.

If you can’t host an event, please chip in $5 to help Daily Kos build a strong movement to resist Trump.

Keep fighting,
Irna Landrum, Daily Kos

Sheriff’s Office Seeks Assistance Locating Missing Endangered Teenager

Sheriff Jon Lopey, Siskiyou Sheriff's report

Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Report

February 15, 2017

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) received a report of a missing teenager on Thursday, February 9, 2017 and she has not been found.  Victoria Lara, 15 years-old, was last seen in the Dunsmuir area and is considered “endangered” by SCSO investigators.  A report was received that she was seen and contacted by a citizen in the Chico area on Saturday, February 11, 2017.  Victoria was last seen wearing jean leggings, tank top, a zip-up coat, and she has pierced ears.  A regional bulletin has been disseminated to all law enforcement agencies in an effort to locate Victoria but thus far, no sign of her has been reported by federal, state, or local law enforcement agencies.

According to Sheriff Jon Lopey, “We are very concerned about Victoria’s welfare and we definitely consider her endangered at this time.  Victoria has reportedly not contacted relatives or friends since her disappearance, which concerns us greatly.  We ask that the public and all regional law enforcement partners be on the lookout for Victoria.  A SCSO detective traveled to Chico today in an attempt to follow-up leads in an effort to locate her.  Anyone with information about Victoria is urged to contact the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office 24-hour Dispatch Center at (530) 841-2900.”

Jury of 7 women, 5 men seated for new Oregon refuge trial

Bundy Battle - Nevada, Bureau of Land Management, CORRUPTION, Courts, CRIMINAL, Federal gov & land grabs

Herald and News.com

February 16, 2017

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A jury of seven women and five men, as well as four alternates, has been selected to hear the trial of four men who joined Ammon Bundy at last winter’s armed takeover of a wildlife refuge in southeastern Oregon.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/2lbKWiX ) that the jury was chosen after attorneys for both the prosecution and the defense interviewed about 58 prospective jurors out of a pool of 1,000 people. The trial is expected to begin next week.

This is the second trial in connection to the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. Last fall, jurors acquitted Bundy and six others.

The defendants now on trial include Duane Ehmer, Jason Patrick, Jake Ryan and Darryl Thorn. All are accused of conspiring to impede Interior Department employees through the use of force, threats or intimidation.

‘Takings’ trial adjourns

Agriculture, CORRUPTION, Courts, Federal gov & land grabs, Klamath Project - BOR

Herald and News.com

February 15, 2017

U.S. Federal Court Judge Marian Blank Horn adjourned the Klamath Basin “takings” case in Washington, D.C., on Monday, bringing an official end to the trial.

But there is still more work to be done.

“It is likely considerable time will be required to thoroughly complete review of the record and issue a final judgment,” said Klamath Falls water attorney Bill Ganong in a news release.

Further briefings based on the evidence and applicable legal standards, followed by closing oral argument, is tentatively planned for May 9, according to Ganong.

“We know it will be after May 9,” he said. “Sometime after that, the judge will issue her final opinion.”

The two-week trial started on Jan. 30 at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, within walking distance of the White House. More than 20 irrigators or those representing the interests of irrigators testified during the trial of their losses in 2001 when water was shutoff to benefit endangered fish downstream.

Bureau of Reclamation officials were listed as witnesses for the defense during the trial, and shared agreements that the water available in 2001 had to be used to meet the requirements of biological opinions issued that year to promote the health of the sucker and coho salmon, according to Ganong.

If they prevail, the irrigators may be awarded up to $30 million. More importantly to them, the irrigators hope a ruling in their favor would mean that federal agencies must balance agriculture’s loss against the benefits to fish downstream.

Class-action lawsuit documentation

Ganong said legal counsel for the plaintiff are formulating documents that will make it possible for irrigators to opt in to what has been certified as a class-action lawsuit.

Ganong and lead counsel Roger Marzulla, of Marzulla Law, based in Washington, D.C., worked on drafting a notice and a claim form for the suit on Tuesday.

“You have to file a form that says you’re joining the class and going to make a claim for the damages you suffered,” Ganong said.

Ganong said the defense, led by Kristine S. Tardiff, of the U.S. Department of Justice Environmental & Natural Resources, will have an opportunity to review the class-action form with Marzulla Law, with a chance to discuss its contents.

“By Friday, they will either have agreed on the notice and the claim form and that will go to the judge,” Ganong said.

“If there’s a disagreement, then the judge will resolve that disagreement and issue the final form. So by Monday or Tuesday of next week, there will be an order approving the notice that goes out and the claim form that goes out.”

The claim form is not finalized yet, but Ganong said irrigators wishing to fill out a form will be able to do so locally. A deadline to file will be determined by the court.

All actions are preliminary and subject to negotiation, according to Ganong.

Ganong, who heads home today from the nation’s capital, said he was impressed by those who testified at trial.

“The sincerity and the impact on the community, that just came through clearly,” Ganong said.

Oregon counties sue over Cascade-Siskiyou expansion

Federal gov & land grabs, Lawsuits

Herald and News.com

Oregon Public Broadcasting

February 16, 2017

In his last days in office, President Obama expanded the Cascade-Siskiyou National monument on the Oregon-California border.

Now, a group of counties that gets revenue from logging lands within the monument boundaries is suing the federal government.

Tim Freeman, president of the Association of O&C Counties and a Douglass County commissiner, said the lost revenue will lead to fewer county services “like public health and mental health and libraries and museums and law enforcement and really creating important livability for communities around the state.”

Freeman said it’s unclear if the Trump administration could eliminate the monument entirely, but he hopes the administration could shrink it.
